MARCH SPOTLIGHT
Melbourne indie filmmaking duo Cinema Viscera
is ready for a NEW ERA
"From humble beginnings in my tiny Ascot Vale apartment, I met Perri Cummings at the very start of what would become Girls Act Good—a time when we didn’t even have a name yet! Fast forward to today, and Perri is not only one of my closest friends but also my biggest mentor and champion. Her unwavering support for Girls Act Good has been nothing short of incredible. From performing and writing to mentoring, dramaturgy, and even providing us with film equipment, Perri has played a pivotal role in the success of our Award-Winning web series Last Breath.
After Anora’s Oscar win, I’m more determined than ever to continue supporting independent filmmakers, and that's exactly what Cinema Viceser is all about. In an industry where lasting 16 years is almost unheard of, Perri and her partner Paul have not just survived, but THRIVED. I'm showing my love and support for their incredible work by donating and spreading the word, and I hope you’ll join me in celebrating their story too!" - Jennifer Monk (GAG Founder).
Having spent years working together, and with several self-funded short films and two micro-budget features under their belt, Cinema
Viscera is turning sixteen and has decided it’s time to grow up. Ready to take on bolder, more ambitious projects, Cinema Viscera’s
acceptance into the Australian Cultural Fund’s Boost Program felt like the perfect opportunity we needed to make that commitment to take our work to a new level.
Through the ACF Boost program, we are raising funds to make our most ambitious project yet. But we need your help: our Australian Cultural Fund Campaign is running from now until the 30th of April, and every donation over $2 is not only tax deductible but will be matched, up to $5000, by Creative Australia.
Your support will not only help us develop a more visceral style, test new filming techniques, and work with some wonderful new collaborators, but will give us a polished proof-of-concept film for a larger work, currently in development.
RELEASE is a short psychological thriller film about Hope, a woman in her 50s institutionalised for years and suddenly forced to fend for herself in a world she doesn’t know, but when she’s trapped and tormented by a teenage bully, her survival instinct kicks in and she proves herself a frightening force to be reckoned with.
Inspired by the forced closures of psychiatric institutions in Victoria in the late 1990s and our current crisis in poverty among women over 50, Release aims to give an immersive experience of the way Hope sees and feels the world, and connect with audiences on a deeper level.
